First Step to the Internet

NEW WORDS
Students should extract new words by themselves from chapter No. 1 and write them on neat copies as vocabulary words. There is no need to memorize these words but students should be able to read and understand these words as I explained and discussed in class.

NEW TERMS AND ABBREVIATIONS
Students should learn these terms and abbreviation. It will be the part of exam.
1.    Network:
       When a group of computers connected with each other, then it is called Network.
2.    Modem:
       It is a device that allows a computer to connect with other computers and communicate with each others.
3.    Net Surfing:
       When we move from one website to another website then it is called net surfing.
4.    Search Engine:
       It is a type of program that can search any information on some topic or theme through a collection of web pages.
5.    Website:
       When the collection of one or more pages linked together to provide information on any topic through a system of hyperlink.
6.    World Wide Web:
       It is a system in which pages are interlinked that display a variety of information. This information can be accessed through internet by the users all over the world.

Answer: Following are the two safety tips you need to be aware of when you are online:
1. Never put up personal information on the internet.
2. Don't send pictures or any personal data or activities on the internet without the permission of parents.

b. Compare the different kinds of modems. Which do you think is the most efficient?
Answer: Following are the different kinds of modems:
1. Cable modem
2. Telephone modem
3. Wireless modem
Cable Modem: It connects the computer with local cable TV line.
Telephone Modem: It connects the computer with telephone line.
Wireless modem: This modem can send or receives the signals through air.
* I think wireless is the most efficient because it can facilitates anywhere and anytime.

c. What are the similarities and differences between wireless and wired media? (Page 128 in Keyboard Book 5 will help).
Answer: Similarities:
1. They both can transfer electronic data from one place to another.
2. They both required modem for data transmission.
3. They both are used to access the internet.
Differences:
1. Wired media uses cables while wireless media don't use cable to transfer data from one place to another.
2. Wireless media can be accessed at any point while wired media has specific points in order to access the data.
3. Wireless media reduces the cable obstacles which is a big problem in wired connection.

d. Identify three web browsers used in your school lab or at home. Why do you think there needs to be more than one web browser?
Answer: Following are the three web browsers used in my school lab or at home:
1. Internet Explorer
2. Google Chrome
3. Mozilla Firefox
Yes, we need to have more than one web browser because all have their own features like Internet Explorer is installed with windows but Google Chrome is faster than Internet Explorer plus Internet Explorer is consider as system software while Google Chrome is consider as application software, hence all have their unique features.

e. You have to create a website for your school. Why is it important for a school website to be secure?
Answer: It is very important to secure the school website because it has the information of the students, their parents, and the information of school, their fee record, their employment record which can be stolen easily.

f. Which key words would you use to look up information on the Independence Day of Pakistan?
Answer: Lab work (will be discuss in Computer lab. Students do not have to do this question on neat copies).

     We can measure the speed of modem in bps (bits per second).
