Introducing Publisher 2013

NEW WORDS
Students should extract new words by themselves from chapter No. 1 and write them on neat copies as vocabulary words. There is no need to memorize these words but students should be able to read and understand these words as I explained and discussed in class.

NEW TERMS AND ABBREVIATIONS
Students should learn these terms and abbreviation. It will be the part of exam.
1.    Swash:
       We use a lot of font styles. Swash is also a font that is used to create some stylish extension at the end of characters.
2.    Objects:
       All the elements that we place in our document either in boxes or in pictures etc are called objects.
3.    Scratch Area:
       Scratch area is of grey colour area around the publication page. This area allows to place the objects in the publication page before insertion.
4.    Drop Cap:
       This is a type of text-formatting tool used to enlarges the first letter of the word.
5.    Template:
       It is a pre-designed document or layout in which we just enter the data which saves the time and provides good quality of formatting.
6.    Ligature:
       It is the connections between characters of a font.

a. What is the purpose of the page navigation pane in Publisher?
Answer: The purpose of the page navigation pane in Publisher is to view and work with all pages of the document created in Publisher. I can easily perform the following tasks by using navigation pane in Publisher:
1. Page thumbnails
2. Adding page
3. Deleting page
4. Rearranging page
5. Duplicate page

b. Which are the two tabs that appear when you select a text box?
Answer: Following are the two tabs that appears when I select the text box:
1. Drawing tools.
2. Text box tools.

c. What do you mean by typography? Where are the commands for setting typography located?
Answer: Typography determines the style and appearance of any character in the document.
The commands for setting typography is located in typography group on the FORMAT tab under the text box tool.

d. How will you set a background colour for a text box?
Answer: Lab work (will be discuss in Computer lab. Students do not have to do this question on neat copies).

e. What is a Swash? How is it different from ligatures?

f. Analyse the similarities and differences between the interfaces of MS Publisher and MS Word.
Answer: Similarities between MS Publisher and MS Word:
1. They both allow to choose all of the following options
   a. font style
   b. colour
   c. size of text
   d. italic feature
   e. bold
   f. underline
   g. justify text
   h. justify alignment i.e left alignment and right alignment
2. To format text some commands are used in both MS Word and MS Publisher.
Differences between MS Publisher and MS Word:
1. MS Publisher is a software use for graphic designing. MS Word is a software use for typing.
2. MS Publisher has advanced tools for pictures and graphics compare to MS Word.

g. Evaluate the reasons for using MS Publisher to make a greetings card rather than MS Word.
Answer: Following are the reasons for using MS Publisher to make a greetings card rather than MS Word:
1. We have good control to adjust the objects.
2. It provides more options to manipulate the images.
3. It provides macro and micro view of the document for better visualization.

h. Using the text formatting tools you learned about in this chapter, create the front page of a school magazine.
