Advanced Features of Word 2013

NEW WORDS
Students should extract new words by themselves from chapter No. 1 and write them on neat copies as vocabulary words. There is no need to memorize these words but students should be able to read and understand these words as I explained and discussed in class.

NEW TERMS AND ABBREVIATIONS
Students should learn these terms and abbreviation. It will be the part of exam.
1.    Header:
       It is a piece of text or combination of words, numbers or logo or any picture that is displayed on the top of every page of the document.
2.    Footer:
       It is a piece of text or combination of words, numbers or logo or any picture that is displayed on the bottom of every page of the document.
3.    Navigation:
       It is the process to open some programs. The steps that we are following and the number of menus with which we interact to reach some icon, program and any other feature is called navigation.
4.    Footnote:
       It is the additional note added at the end of the page having some reference information.
5.    Endnote:
       It is the additional note added at the end of the document having some reference information.
6.    Watermark:
       It is the lighter shaded text or image. It is added as a background in the document that usually represents the belongings of the document.

The header is an important feature of Word documents because it gives the information about the content of each document.

c. Outline the steps you would take to add the date to a letter. If you were to write a diary every day for a month which Word feature would help you get the dates correct? What do you think are the benefits of writing on online diary rather than a paper diary?

d. Footnotes in the footer box in a document can be really useful. (See page 49 in your Keyboard 5 book for more information). e.g. they can be used to give the explanation of an unusual word in the text. Do you think it is better to give the meaning of a word in the footer rather than including it in the text? Give reasons for your answer.
Answer: Yes it is better to give the meaning of a word in the footer rather than including it in the text because:
1. It is easy to find for the reader.
2. It will not divert the reader's attention.
3. It gives the organized look to the document.

e. What is a watermark? Why do you think lots of people add watermarks to their photos? Give reasons for your answer.
Answer: Watermark is the lighter shaded text or image. It is added as a background in the document that usually represents the belongings of the document.
People add watermarks to their photos because:
1. It discourages editing.
2. It discourages copying.
3. It discourages any type of manipulation.

f. Explain why an author would prefer to use endnotes rather than footnotes when writing a historical novel. (page 49 can help you again)
Answer: An author would prefer to use endnotes rather than footnotes when writing a historical novel because:
1. It gives a neat and clean look to the document.
2. It provides smoother reading to the reader.
3. Easy to compile and reformat the individual pages.

1. Day and date feature will help to organize the diary.
