Formatting Data in Excel 2013 

NEW WORDS
Students should extract new words by themselves from chapter No. 1 and write them on neat copies as vocabulary words. There is no need to memorize these words but students should be able to read and understand these words as I explained and discussed in class.

NEW TERMS AND ABBREVIATIONS
Students should learn these terms and abbreviation. It will be the part of exam.
1.    Standard:
       It's the tab whose options are understandable globally.
2.    Alignment:
       It's the option to enter or write data within defined boundary limits. There are two types of alignment:
* Vertical alignment
* Horizontal alignment
3.    Vertical Alignment:
       If the defined boundary limits targeting vertically then it's vertical alignment.
4.    Horizontal Alignment:
       If the defined boundary limits targeting horizontally then it's horizontal alignment.
5.    Long text effect:
       When we want to write in the cell but because of it's big size it spills into the next cell.
6.    Merging cells:
       When we want to write long text in a cell, we can merge the next cells to write long text in one cell.
7.    Pre-designed:
       The cell, text or anything that is already designed before working called pre-designed.
8.    Formatting:
       It is the appearance of the text when it is printed on the page.
9.    Orientation:
       The direction of the paper where we are going to enter the data. The directed position may be portrait or landscape.

Q No. 1: Answer the following.
a. Explain the two ways to handle long text in Excel-Wrap Text and Merge & Centre.
Answer: Wrap Text: It means to write the text in one cell but due to it's big size it spills into next cells.
Merge and Centre: When we want to write long text in a cell, we can merge the next cells to write long text in one cell.

b. How will you add the Rupee symbol to numeric data in a cell?
Answer: In order to add rupee symbol to numeric data in a cell. We have to select the currency from Home tab. Then we have to add our required currency. Here we will add PKR.

c. How will you add a background colour to the cell range A1:E5?
Answer: If we want to add background colour to the cell range A1:E5 we have to select this range and choose the option from the Tool bar. Then select the required colour and apply.

d. Name the buttons in the lower row of the Number group on the Home tab.
Answer: Following are buttons in the lower row of the Number group on the Home tab:
* Percent style
* Increase decimal
* Decrease decimal
* Accounting number format
* Comma style

e. What will you do to rotate the text in a cell to a 25 degree angle?
Answer: Lab work (will be discuss in Computer lab. Students do not have to do this question on neat copies).

f. Analyse the advantages of having different types of formatting in Excel 2013.
Answer: The advantages of having different types of formatting in Excel 2013:
1. It allows us to change the cell appearance by changing the presentation of it's content.
2. We can easily format and edit text and numbers in Excel.
3. We can highlight the important part of sheet using different colours and tools like:
   * Using different style of fonts.
   * By increasing font size.
   * By using different fonts.
4. We can make the worksheet more informative and presentable.

g. Your teacher has asked you to help format an Excel worksheet. You can only use cell styles or font formatting. Which one would you choose? Give reasons for your answer.
Answer: I would choose font formatting because of the following reasons:
1. I have more options for creativity and customization.
2. I can easily format the content of a cell in less time.
3. I can do formatting that deals all the following aspects:
   * Font
   * Types of borders
   * Types of numbers
   * Alignment
   * Cell filling with different colours.

h. Create an Excel worksheet which contains the following information, your first name, your age, your school, your class, your teacher's name, and the number of pupils in your class. You could add other information as well to make it more comprehensive.
Answer: Lab work (will be discuss in Computer lab. Students do not have to do this question on neat copies).
